Secular Women of the Triangle is a warm, welcoming community for progressive women in the Triangle and surrounding areas who are interested in thoughtful conversation, meaningful connection, and shared human values. Our community includes atheists, agnostics, humanists, and women of all ages from many belief backgrounds who are curious about or supportive of a secular, inclusive approach to life.
We bring people together through relaxed social events like brunches and board games, deeper conversations in our book club and discussion groups, hands-on community service, and values-driven advocacy work. Whether you’re looking for friendship, intellectual engagement, or a way to make a positive impact, there’s a place for you here.
Our Mission
To be a safe and supportive community for secular women by hosting events and activities that nurture meaningful connections and relationships.
Our Vision
To cultivate an empowering and supportive community where women can fully embrace and actively live out their secular values.
Our Values
Include community, inclusion, empowerment, science, secularism, and respect.
We serve progressive women in the Triangle who care about equity, empathy, and evidence-based thinking. Our advocacy work centers on supporting the separation of church and state and promoting a society guided by reason, human dignity, and mutual respect.
Our History
Founded in 2017 as Atheist and Agnostic Women of the Triangle, the group later became Women Without Religion in the Triangle and officially adopted the name Secular Women of the Triangle in October 2024. With the formation of our first leadership team in August 2024, we’ve continued to grow into a more intentional, collaborative, and connected community.
Our Actions
We organize our events and membership through Meetup (with over 800 members), offer an optional Discord space for ongoing conversation, and maintain a website with resources and a blog. Highlights include launching our book club in December 2024, forming an advocacy committee and attending Durham Pride, hosting Secular Spring, and planning Advocacy Day in May 2025. We also regularly volunteer with local organizations and partner with other secular groups throughout the Triangle.
If you’re curious, values-driven, and looking for community, we’d love to meet you!
